Thoughts on the safety of Home Birth

Thought for the day: I know from the research that for low-risk Moms Home births are actually as safe, if not safer. than hospital births. Why is this? Because Home birth Midwives follow a One-on-one Midwifery model of care. The difference is that the hospital is busy, and the medical staff cares for many women at the same time. As such they rely on technology to monitor the Mom and baby, that is known to be inaccurate, and have high false positive rates. The One-on-one Midwifery model of care ensures that your Midwife is monitoring your well being, and that of your baby’s during the majority of the labor.

However, there must be several criteria met first – 1) the mother must be low risk; 2) She must desire a home birth; 3) She must plan the home birth; 4) She must have a NY State Licensed birth attendant present. Then all of these things are in play, then we see much better outcomes. So when you read research on the subject be sure to check what they did and did not control for. https://healthybirth.net/1025/
