Bradley® classes are a comprehensive 25 hr. course that covers pregnancy nutrition, exercises, how to stay healthy and low risk, relaxation techniques, deep abdominal breathing, natural labor/comfort techniques, pros and cons of medical interventions, emergency situations, breastfeeding, newborn care, postpartum, and more. Families who choose the Bradley Method usually desire to have a loved one/husband/partner/friend trained as their primary labor assistant, or at least thoroughly educated so they know what to expect, what is normal, what is not, how to help, and when to ask for help. The primary focus is a healthy baby and mom, which is best achieved through a healthy natural birth. The course teaches specific techniques to achieve this goal, and gives families the information they need to make important decisions that are right for their family, and their individual circumstances.
The Bradley Method:
-emphasizes well balanced nutrition, specific exercises and avoidance of harmful substances for a healthy low risk pregnancy.
-gives women the information they need to make healthy responsible decisions about their pregnancy and labor, according to what is right for them and their families.
-trains the labor support partner to help the mother cooperate with her body during labor, and to give emotional support during this special time.
-encourages and teaches the use of relaxation techniques to allow the woman’s body to birth naturally.
-limits class size to allow for personal attention for each couple.
The American Academy of Husband Coached Childbirth® was founded by Robert A. Bradley, MD and Marjie and Jay Hathaway, AAHCC for the purpose of making childbirth education information available. The Academy provides communication services, resource information, film showings, lectures, workshops, and national accreditation for teachers.
